It has begun! My first present was a carefully wrapped rectangle. My first guess was a journal, but after poking at the edges and finding no hard cover edge, I guessed it was probably a paperback book.
And TA DAAA! Correct. I don't think I've ever heard of this book or author.
And as previously established, I'm a literary snob. But this book actually passes my strict cover-judging system. It's about Dinah, Jacob's daughter from Genesis. Greg and I actually just finished reading about her in our canonical reading plan for this year. I love books about women of the bible. (I highly recommend Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur.) And though I don't usually read historical fiction- Christian or not, this book has a major point in its favor. It ties directly into one of the more recent "whispers-" a few bread crumbs ahead of where I'm at in the blog explanations. Look for this connection in a future post, Whisper: The Book of Job.
I'll move that series along here briefly because the next whisper, or inkling from god was pretty simple.
Whisper 3: Running Toward Something, September 2012
After doing the values inquiry, I was struck with the contrast between running toward something on the horizon versus running away from something behind you. I've lived in a few unsafe situations in the past, and I'm familiar with the need to run away. It's a legitimate and necessary season sometimes. But I got the impression in September that my next season in life, those delicious 30's, will be characterized by running toward something rather than away. That sounds like an adventure to me! It reminds me of this song.
