Tomorrow marks the beginning of the official march towards my 30th birthday and the end of my 20's. A group of my friends, those I call the Bible study crew or the coffee girls, started an awesome tradition many, many years ago when the first of us turned 30. We call it the 30 Rock Tour in which we are given 30 wrapped presents one month before our birthday- one to open on each of the 30 days leading up to the big day. It's lots of fun. And making a surprise delivery of the box is the start of the fun. I was thoroughly surprised when the crew showed up at my house Sunday night, rang the doorbell, and then left the big box sitting on the doorstep in the dark while they hid around the side of the house. Well, actually I wasn't surprised because I didn't hear the doorbell that time, but apparently Sahara did. She rambled down the stairs barking at the top of her lungs, and Greg stalked after trying to grab her and get her quiet since Rowan was sleeping (and more importantly the Texans game was coming to a disappointing close). Sahara was in a lot of trouble with "daddy" and got locked in our bedroom. I snuck in there to pet her briefly so she knew we still love her, and I explained a little about football playoffs, concluding with "you'll understand when you are older." As I closed the door to our bedroom, the doorbell rang, twice this time. Confusion, barking. I opened the door to see a very beautifully wrapped box sitting alone in the dark, and seconds later the mischievous bible study crew sprang out from around the corner. "You got my dog in so much trouble!" I said. But she forgave them, kind of. She eventually stopped barking at them and even allowed herself to be petted.
Well tomorrow is the beginning of the end as I open present number 1. I will endeavor to document this 30 Rock here on my blog. Let the adventure begin.
